Derek is the Manager of Product Design at Fandom. He and his team partner closely with the Product, User Research, and Growth organizations on ways to provide the best experience for our users throughout their fan journey and how we can empower both contributors and consumers when it comes to celebrating their fandoms.

History

When Derek first joined Fandom he worked on the Discussions product, and shortly after started building the new design system. Derek has led the design effort on projects such as Wiki Modernization, Community Builder, and content discovery, and guided projects such as Community Feeds and Trivia Quiz.

Before joining Fandom, Derek was the Lead UX Designer for SkilledUp where he helped lead the redesign and launch of the flagship website as well as establish and evolve their brand. Prior to that, he contracted with various San Francisco companies focusing on web design and branding.

Community Connect Involvement

Derek will be leading two workshops with Michael Morgan focusing on community content and editing tools.

-Derek is a Product Designer on the UX Team at Wikia. He enjoys tackling key user pain points and working to create a better user experience for both contributions and visitors on Wikia. In addition to focusing on UX improvements he also spends a lot of time working on new features to help provide users the ability to share their knowledge in new and innovative ways.
